Archaeological work started
Archaeological work is currently being carried out by internationally respected Museum of London Archaeology Service, and will involve the excavation of at least 8 trenches across the development site.
The trench locations and full programme of works have been agreed with B&NES's Archaeological Officer under the advice of English Heritage. The current trench that the public can view in the Southgate area relates to works being carried out to assess archaeological potential of Roman and medieval occupation along Southgate Street. Both Multi and Morley are aware of the suggested line of the Roman Road; this will be fully examined during the course of construction in the area which lies to the west of the current trench. Over the course of coming months, this website will be updated to include full details, including photographs, of any findings.
