We're digging and cleaning up after ourselves!
We are pleased to announce that in conjunction with our contractors Sir Robert Mc Alpine, excavation work started on the SouthGate site on Monday 24th September.
This phase of the development involves digging a 10-metre hole to allow an open space for the contractors to start construction of the basement and 860-space underground car park. This should take approximately 10 months, after which engineering works to build the internal structure will commence.
Together with Sir Robert Mc Alpine, we have identified a number of ways of ensuring that Bath is as unaffected by this next phase in the development of SouthGate as possible. The lorries involved in removing earth will:
- Arrive onsite at 7am and cease at 7pm to reduce impact on the rush hour periods
- Switch off their engines prior to loading only at 8am to reduce noise and pollution
- Be washed down prior to leaving the site to keep the roads as clean as possible
- Stop work during the month of December to ensure there is no clash with the coaches and general traffic that come into Bath

Lorry routes
The lorries will enter and exit the site via Kingston Road, Railway Street and Manvers Street. We have created a series of maps illustrating the routes that they will be taking in and out of Bath.
